AI Needs Structure
AI can generate an image. But a comic is more than a collection of isolated images.
Panels, sequences, characters, spaces, dialogue and reader choices all work together. For an AI agent to support this process, it needs a structure that helps it understand those relationships—and clear boundaries that keep the creator in control.
That is why our long-term mission is to develop spatial and story intelligence for comics. We are designing Panel to give AI a framework for working with the different parts of a comic as one connected story.
AI can also be genuinely useful for repetitive and time-consuming work. The Comics Agent could help sort messy layers, support research, translate text, check story continuity, improve dialogue or make reader data easier to understand. These are practical ways to save time without handing over the creative decisions.
We are aware of the risks that come with AI. It can flatten creative decisions, blur authorship or move control away from the people making the work. We want to develop the Comics Agent carefully, listen to creators and the comics community, and treat creative control as a requirement.
The goal is not to automate authorship. It is to help creators shape coherent stories while keeping their decisions and voice their own.
